Breathing Therapy

Breath therapy is a general term used to describe any type of therapy that utilizes the breath to improve mental, physical, and emotional health. In yoga teachings we call this Pranayama

Pranayama is the formal practice of breath control in yoga. Pranayama literally means control of the breath; “Prana”is energy/ breath / life force and “Yama” means to control or restrict. when we practice pranayama we are effectively controlling our breath ourselves. This is different to how we would normally breath, in every day life our breath is involuntary, in pranayama we introduce control which can bring many physical and mental benefits.

The breath and how we breathe is a reflection of our mental and emotional state. The effects of pranayama can be powerful and should be explored by every serious yoga student. We do not teach Pranayama to complete beginners - please speak to Suzy first if you would like to attend a pranayama session

Pranayama should only be taught by a qualified practitioner, all of our teachers at Beech Tree Yoga are qualified to teach Pranayama
